These politicians are simply ruthless. The Trump organization, meanwhile, was indicted in July with conspiracy, fraud scheme and several counts of tax evasion and falsification of records. The company, like its longtime CFO, Allen Weisselberg, pleaded not guilty. Earlier this week, a lawyer for Weisselberg said there was “good reason to believe that there may be more indictments to come.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, Times noted “Donald Trump’s tax newspaper coverage has helped educate the public through meticulous reporting on a topic of major public interest. This lawsuit is an attempt to silence independent news agencies and we plan to vigorously defend against it. On Twitter, Craig wrote, “I knocked on Mary Trump’s door. She opened it. I think they call it journalism. Mary Trump’s lawyer Théodore J. Boutrous Jr. noted in a statement: “This is the latest in a long line of frivolous Donald Trump lawsuits that target truthful speech and important journalism on matters of public interest.” It is doomed to failure like the rest of its baseless efforts to curb freedom of speech and of the press.
For her part, Mary Trump told the Daily Beast about her uncle: “I think he’s a fucking loser, and he’s going to throw everything he can against the wall. It is despair. The walls close and he throws anything that might stick against the wall. As always with Donald, he will try to change the subject.
